Rep. James P. Moran, Jr. (Virgina), introduced a bill (HR 5573) in Congress on March 10, 2008, that would amend Title 5, United States Code, to make employees covered by the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) eligible for a lump sum payment for a part of their sick leave if this sick leave is "substantial." The bill has been referred to the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. The text of the bill should be available at http://thomas.loc.gov a few days after its date of introduction. Individuals can obtain general information by typing the words "partial pay for unused sick leave" into the box on the computer screen used to describe searches and then clicking the search button and selecting appropriate items.

OPEDA is currently soliciting applications for the OPEDA John W. Peterson Agriculture Scholarship.   The deadline for submitting applications has been extended to July 30, 2007.
