James (Jim) J. Krueger became Assistant State Conservationist for operations for the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), the U.S. Department of Agriculture's conservation agency for private land on August 5, 2006. As Assistant State Conservationist, he is responsible for operations and administrative management, technical assistance provided to land users through programs for which the NRCS has responsibility, and preparation and maintenance of required records and reports. He also serves as a member of the Kansas Management Team, supervises staff, guides and coordinates the workload analysis and workforce planning process in the state, assists in developing budget estimates, and provides leadership in the Government Performance Review Act in Kansas.
A native of Washington, Kansas, Jim worked as a self-employed farmer from 1975 until 1991. He attended Kansas State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science in 1974.
From 1986 until 1991, Jim worked for NRCS (formerly the Soil Conservation Service) as a soil conservationist in Belleville, Kansas. From 1991 through 2003 Jim served as District Conservationist at Abilene, Kansas, and then as State Resource Conservationist from 2003 to 2006, prior to taking his current position.
Jim is involved with community organizations such as the Wild Bill Hickok Rodeo Committee, Heritage Festival, and other organizations. In 2000, Jim was honored as an Organization of Professional Employees, U.S. Department of Agriculture (OPEDA) Professional of the Year in the Technical Support Category and was a 1996 Soil and Water Conservation Berg Fellow.
