M. Farook Sait, Esq., Special Assistant to the Director, Office of Civil Rights, recently was elected National President of OPEDA. He succeeds Dr. Dora Hayes Hambley who had served two terms. He is also President of the Organization of South Asian Americans in Agriculture, an employee organization.
Mr. Sait, a member of the Maryland Bar Association, earned his Juris Doctor degree at Howard University School of Law, Washington, D.C. He also completed the Senior Executive Leadership Program at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.
He has held key managerial positions in the Office of Civil Rights, involving program and employment compliance, and processing of program and employment discrimination complaints. He has conducted workshops for the Federal Dispute Resolution Conference, Inc., the Office of Personnel Management, Department of Interior, and the Environmental Protection Agency.
He has served as General Counsel for the American Federation of Teachers, Prince George’s County, Maryland. He was adjunct professor at Central Michigan University, Pepperdine University, and Columbia Union College and provides pro bono legal services to community and religious organizations. In addition, he frequently appears as a host on DARSHAN, a popular Asian TV program.
